A happy high-end Christmas
After Wall Street filled their workers' pockets with nearly $24 billion in bonus cash, American luxury retailers have already declared this the best Christmas ever.
Ferraris, holidays in the Maldives and watches worth hundreds of thousands of dollars were just some of the items snapped up by New York finance types in the weeks leading up to today's gorging, according to a survey by Trader Monthly.
One of the hungriest big spenders last week, according to posh Manhattan eatery BLT, was a 12-year-old boy who got to eat a 12-ounce Kobe steak at $26 an ounce, thanks to his banker dad.
In total, the bonuses doled out to Walls Street's workers tallied $23.9 billion, according to a conservative estimate by the New York State Comptroller. That means on average, each person working in the financial services industry had an extra $137,580 to splurge.
