New engines for Audi
There's an efficiency drive going on at Audi, as it has added three new FSI petrol engines to its range.
The A3 gets a 157bhp 1.8-litre turbo and the A6 now features a 207bhp 2.8-litre V6. A third unit - for the Q7 off-roader - is a 276bhp 3.6. FSI motors blend strong pace with good economy, claim bosses.
TESTED: Lexus IS250
It is hard not to take notice of the fresh Lexus onslaught on the local market with a complete range of new cars which all feature striking designs. The model that stands out most, and which is also the brand's "bread and butter" derivative, is the IS250.
This car is Lexus's main weapon against the German gang as it attempts to steal sales from the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes C-Class.
The IS is an all-new car and takes over from a model which has been around for seven years but which was never really competitive to take on the Germans.
However, the new model is not only bigger and better looking but also stiffer, making it a more realistic rival.
Currently one engine derivative, a 2.5-litre V6 is available, but buyers can choose from two trim levels. Our test car was the range-topping SE version.
Chevrolet adds a little edge to its smallest SUV
General Motors Corp. on Wednesday showed off a sport version of its compact Equinox sport utility vehicle, expected to hit showrooms next summer.
The made-over Equinox will come equipped with a more powerful engine and six-speed automatic transmission, larger wheels and some cosmetic features designed to give the plucky vehicle a more aggressive look.
The original Equinox went on sale in mid-2004 with little fanfare and has been a solid seller for GM. But the SUV could use a boost with consumers. Sales this year are down 13 percent from year-ago levels, with 105,000 vehicles sold through November, according to Autodata Corp., a New Jersey company that tracks car and truck sales.
Giving car buyers a sport option, which Chevy has also done with vehicles such as the Impala, Cobalt and Malibu sedans, should help set the Equinox apart in the increasingly competitive market, Chevrolet Marketing Director Cheryl Catton said.

Retire in style
Going out in exactly the same way a person went to work 41 years, one month and seven days ago probably ought to be counted among them.
Thats how Joe Willforth of 2468 Andrews Drive did it when he retired Friday at Delphi Packard Electric.
Willforth, 65, drove off in the 1964 Chevrolet Impala convertible that he arrived in for his first day on the job more than four decades earlier. The car has never been altered and aside from a few scratches and scrapes from storage looks just as it did when it was purchased.
I drove it the first day and I wanted to drive it the last, the retiree said of the Impala. How many people can say that.
Willforth said that using the car for his final day of work had been his plan for some time. He said he was thankful that it didnt snow Friday.
Shooter hits patrol car; gun found
Investigators are awaiting results of a ballistics test to determine who took a pot shot at a passing Saginaw police cruiser Saturday -- and hit it.
The officer, whom city police officials declined to identify, escaped injury by only a few feet in the
2:30 a.m. gunfire on Sheridan between Rust and Webber.
The police car was southbound when a bullet fired from the west side of Sheridan pierced the rear passenger window. It lodged in the blue Chevrolet Impala's back seat.
It marked the only time a city police cruiser has taken fire in Chet Allen's' 21 years on the force, the sergeant said.
"It's not good," Allen said.
Alone in the cruiser, the officer was on a routine patrol along a residential stretch of Sheridan when he heard what sounded like a rock breaking his window, Allen said.
