Audi to start production in India next yr, float sales co

New Delhi, Dec 18: German luxury car maker Audi today said it will start production of vehicles in India by next year, utilisng group company Skoda's facility at Aurangabad and would float a new sales company."In autumn of 2007, Audi is set to start assembling the Audi A6 for the Indian market in Aurangabad," the Volkswagen group company said in a statement, adding it would take the completely knocked down (CKD) route."This move gives us the opportunity to better fulfill our potential on this market. Through supplying the part sets, our locations back in Germany will also benefit," Audi Ag Board Member (production) Jochem Heizmann said.The company said in the first full year of production by 2008, it expected to assemble over 300 units of its luxury sedan A6 and sell about 3,000 units by 2010.

Italian beauty to set city roads on fire

HYDERABAD: The city of Nizams has not lost its fetish for imported cars. The latest beauty to set the city roads on fire is the Rs 1.81-crore Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder.

The supercar can hit 0-62 miles per hour (mph) in 4.3 seconds flat and reach a top speed of 195 mph.

The realty boom and big-ticket infrastructure projects have spawned a new breed of nouveau riche in the city. They splurge and live life kingsize, like there is no morrow.

Incidentally, the city's first Lamborghini has reportedly been imported by a contractor.

In the last six months, a host of luxury cars, ranging from Audis to Porsches to Landcruisers to Volkswagens, have hit the city roads.

As per the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) records, the city's super rich have recently imported 60 luxury cars, including Audi A6 (ex-showroom price Rs 34 lakh), Toyota Landcruiser Prado (Rs 68 lakh), Volkswagen (Rs 43 lakh).

Audi to start making cars in India in autumn 2007

INGOLSTADT, Germany (AFX) - Audi AG said it will start making cars in India in the autumn of 2007 with the assembly of the Audi A6, using imported auto parts produced in Germany. The plant in Aurangabad, located in the manufacturing facility of SkodaAuto India, plans to assemble more than 300 cars in 2008. Following last years win of the 'Autocar Middle East Car of the Year' award for the Audi A6 Avant, German premium car manufacturer Audi was proud to receive yet another trophy for the Audi RS4 as 'Best Premium Sports Car of the Year' at the 2006 Autocar Middle East Awards. .

Deadline looms for Lotto claims

Christmas could be a bonanza for some unsuspecting Lotto ticket holders, who have just two days to stake claims worth more than $100,000.

Up for grabs are $50,000 and $20,000 cash prizes, one European tour, a Caribbean cruise and an Audi A6.

All prize tickets were bought on Christmas Eve last year and all would expire one year later, New Zealand Lotteries said.

Lotto shop Petone Takenote had sold tickets to two unwitting prize winners. Last Christmas Eve the store sold a ticket that won its holder $20,000 and another a $20,000 shopping spree.

The unsuspecting buyers are just some of dozens who have not claimed their prizes.

The biggest unclaimed prize is a $333,000 Lotto first division ticket drawn on December 9 this year. It was bought from a Lotto and Post Shop in Hillcrest, Hamilton.

Audi to start India production from Autumn 2007

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Volkswagen AG's premium unit Audi AG said on Monday it would start production in India of its A6 model from autumn 2007.

Production will be based at a plant in Aurangabad and will involve the assembly of parts manufactured in Germany for Audi A6 cars destined for the Indian market, Audi said in a statement.

"This engagement gives us a better chance to tap the market. Through the delivery of the car parts, our domestic sites will also benefit," Audi board member Jochem Heizmann said.

Audi said it also planned to set up a distribution company based in Mumbai at the start of 2007 and would expand its Indian dealer network to at least eight exclusive Audi dealers in coming years. At present it has three dealers in the country.

Volkswagen has said in the past it sees growing markets such as India and Russia as vital for its long-term future and aims to produce up to 110,000 vehicles a year in India from 2009.
